Active Storage hosted a cocktail party at Createasphere, and we figured the bar and cocktail tables would make some pretty targeted ad spaces. So we put ads all around the room - just to get the conversation started.

My team and I created this booth for the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas this past Spring. Besides designing the booth from scratch, we created all the video content and displays used at the show. It was a ton of work, but we were really pleased with the result - a total departure from Active Storage's past look and a very different vibe for the industry. Check out all the videos here

A case for kissing.

This is a case study for an integrated campaign I helped put together for Netflix, while at Trailer Park (which I mentioned here). It was was a real team effort, especially from guys like Dan Kaiser and Chris Berry who beat the bushes to get early UGC entries. Any time you have an online campaign that makes it to the Today Show, you're doing something right.

If you design it, they will come. Maybe.

Ever meet a client that seems too good to be true? Such was the case with Gravx, an extreme sports and entertainment complex that may well only exist in the mind of developer. We were tasked with creating some logo directions as well as what the website might look like. If they ever do build it, it will be pretty awesome, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Adam Junod did the design work, while Chris Berry chased the money.

The Marketing Director is an old friend who had less than no budget - which is typical for a jewelry story that sells millions of dollars worth of watches and diamonds (share the wealth, people). How many commercials have I done in my career? Damn if I know. I figure well over 500, but the truth is, only a small percentage of them are in electronic form. So I've decided to go on a quest and load the good, the bad and the ugly on my own YouTube Channel. As of today I've got 125 spots up there. Considering I did over 300 in just the three years I was at Campbell-Ewald, there's no way I'm going to put EVERYTHING online (I do have to eat and sleep, after all). Wish me luck!

My friend Matt Shevin's self-financed movie The Beneficiary, got into last year's Cannes Film Festival (read all about it on his very funny blog, Inside the Actors Studio Apartment). We implored him to go, and he wisely decided to bring along a few copies of the movie . But rather than schlep a stack of DVD's across the pond, I created a credit-card shaped USB drive for him, which we were able to imprint with contact info and stills from the film. We used a company called flashbay.com to manufacturer them - they were super easy to work with. Cool stuff.

I was lucky enough to hook up with Space Cadet, a production company from Santa Monica, who were hired by Nautilus, Inc. to introduced a new product called Mobia. As Creative Director/Copywriter, I was tasked with overseeing all Interactive, Print and DR Print, as well as provide support and copy on DRTV and Awareness TV. It was a great experience, between traveling up to Portland (always fun) and working with some very talented former colleagues - Designers Sven Igawa and Hosea Gruber, Web-Guru Rodrick Peace, and Production Manager Edward Green. Recently completed site for American Vision Solar, via Brandtailers. Nice bit of flash animation on pic two. And the "Declaration of Energy Independence" lets you type in your name and then "signs it" to the document, which you can print.

Brandtailers recently asked me to pull together a spot on the cheap for the National Automobile Dealers Association. Since I've spent a large part of my career hawking cars, anything that will help get people into the dealership is alright by me.

Director Jeffrey Brown of Tallgrass Pictures stepped up, putting his RED camera to the test, and donating the use of his great studio down in San Diego. He also did the editing and color correction, and even let me sleep in his guest room! The kids are mostly non-actors, which I think actually helped in this case. Not to be forgotten is Greg Kuehn of Peligro Music who donated the sweet acoustic track. It might not win a Lion, but it's a solid little spot - cast, shot, edited and finished in just three days!

This is a DR spot I worked on via MindShare Creative down in Santa Ana. They're nice folks and they've certainly got niche, focusing on lipo and dental (cosmetic) clients. The spot cost less than the catering budget of some of my old Toyota shoots, but I think it works.

Forget putting on silettos, try writing about three girls that seem to exist only to be disliked. And that wasn't the show's intention. I figured nothing I could write would be as mean as what they say themselves. Zoe, the editor, is supposed to be a lovely woman–but drama sells. I'm pretty sure the last set didn't run, but it cracked me up. And that's worth something, isn't it?

Elfcam.TV - Party with Marty!

Trailer Park wanted to create an internal piece to show our thinking, and how we’d bring an idea to market across the digital landscape. So we went out and created "Elfcam", which shows a day in the life of one Marty Elf. The site has links to a bunch of videos, hilarious in their banality. We added a Video Post Card functionality, and created a MySpace page, YouTube channel, along with a link to Marty Gear, via Cafe Press. It doesn’t have a heck of a lot views, but it was fun putting it together.

Netflix Greatest Kiss Website / Videos

UPDATE: THE SITE ENDED UP WITH OVER 400 VIDEOS, AND THE FINALISTS GOT ON THE TODAY SHOW.

The Netflix Greatest Kiss Challenge is another project I worked on at Trailer Park. The idea is shoot a video of yourself recreating a famous movie scene, upload it to the site and the best kissers get flown to NYC to perform it live on stage. The best one wins a trip to Vegas. We did the website, and helped seed videos.

Here's the faux UGC we shot. They're pretty awful, but then, that was the idea. The Godfather is my absolute favorite - you can't train someone to be that awkward.

Brecht BMW Radio Campaign

I've been doing a bunch of these :30 radio spots for Brecht BMW via Brandtailers, in Irvine. Matt Shevin plays the Salesman, Selah Victor the customer. We record at 48 Windows in Santa Monica with the ever-talented Eric Garcia and crew. They're a lot of fun, and I give the client a lot of credit for both allowing us to poke a little fun at them, and staying consistent with their message. Oh, sorry for the cheesy lime-green photo, but I guess it's better than looking at black.

Welcome to the future of automotive advertising, my friends. How do we do it? Volume, volume, volume! That and graphics people who will work for peanuts. I did this spot with the fine people at RealWorld Advertising in Arizona. The fact they are able to make anything on spots like this is a true testimate to creativity!

Netflix Find Your Voice Website

Trailer Park is a top-flight entertainment firm up in Hollywood, where I've been freelancing as CD in the Planning & Development Group. We picked up some pretty fun projects for Netflix, one of which is a film competition they're co-sponsoring with Film Independent. The site doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles (we did the design, not the programing), but I'm pleased with where we ended up design-wise, since Netflix likes to keep things pretty straight.

Back in like 1996, I was freelancing at Crispin & Porter down in Miami and a very lovely art director named Diana (last name escapes me) helped me design an business card based on my freelancing business, FOR RENT ADVT.

Over the years, I used up the cards (and changed address a coupla thousand times). I tried to go with some quickie (free) cards recently, and my wife mentioned they looked awful.

So I contacted the very talented (though not lovely) Hosea Gruber (http://hoseagruber.com/) and begged him to design an updated version, and viola!
